Public Social Science Data
-

Problem statement
Government administrative social science data and their documentation are difficult to find, restricting promising research applications.
There are gaps in the existing integrated administrative data assets (in terms of cohorts, topics and time), which limit the capacity to investigate issues vital to Australia’s future, such as surrounding education, ageing or social policy.
-

SSRIN response
This project component develops a new catalogue of significant social science administrative data and develops technical foundations for a new online data discovery tool.
It will also develop the foundations for creating a new integrated data asset that supports research on nationally significant social issues.
-

Intended longer-term outcomes
Improved data discovery leads to better and more frequent utilisation of existing administrative data by social researchers delivering new insights into society and systems.
New integrated data assets expand the frontiers of policy-relevant research.
